«Ak Bars» Team History


The history of the ice hockey team began in 1956, when the ice hockey team "Mashstroy" was established in Kazan. However, since its first two seasons the team started to play in the Kazan city championship under the name "SK im. Uritskogo" (trans.,- Sport club in the name of Uritskiy). From 1958, the team has played in the Russian (1958-1990 USSR) national championships.
Throughout its history the team has used different names: "SK im. Uritskogo" (1958-1990), "Itil'" (1990-1995), "Ak Bars" (1995 to Current).

Best overall achievments::

  • Four times Champions of Russian Federation (1998, 2006, 2009 and 2010), Three times Silver medal winners(2000, 2002, 2007), Bronze medal winners (2004)

  • During 50 years in the national championships, the Ak Bars team spent 20 seasons in premier leagues: in class A chapmionships (1962/63) , in the High league of class A (1989/90 - 1991/92), in the MHL (1992/93 - 1995/96) and in the Russian Superleague (1996/97 - 2007/08). In total 1104 G with +607 =110 -371 (W-T-L, including OT and SO) with 3 288 2 593 = +695 (GF-GA-GD).
  • In 12 play-off tournaments: 12 seasons (1965/66 - 1971/72, 1977/78, 1978/79, 1986/87, 1995/96, 1997/98), 29 G with +11 =1 -19 (W-T-L, including 2 defaults), шайбы 76 - 131 = -55.
