Dmitry Kvartalnov and Danis Zaripov on the early completion of the KHL season

Dmitry Kvartalnov, Ak Bars head coach, and Danis Zaripov, Ak Bars captain, commented on the decision of the Kontinental Hockey League to cancel the 2019/20 season- according to them it is necessary to concern the current situation with understanding.

Dmitry Kvartalnov, Ak Bars head coach:

− No doubt, the decision is correct, the sports quality has absented, when two teams left the playoffs – the League is international. Different options were offered, but I understood if we continue the championship, the Cup would differ. Of course, it's a pity that this happened, but health issue is crucial. We are respective to the KHL’s decision, this is correct. I am sure our fans will also understand it.

− Was there any anxiety among the hockey players recently?

− Probably not an anxiety, but the situation in the world and in the country is changing every day– manufacturing stops, people do not go out on the streets. We all have people we care for, and this is a psychological issue. The guys also have families, and it is very hard to work when you have these issues.

Danis Zaripov, Ak Bars captain:

− The League has made the right decision – following the current situation in the world and in our country: there are few coronavirus cases in Russia, but they are being revealed. If we do not protect each other and ourselves now, the consequences may be very tough, and the spread of the disease may be more global. I believe that as a hockey family, we should take it seriously, protect our loved ones, and especially the elderly, and help them in this difficult time.
